A returning Australian traveller has given a candid answer when asked what he intends to do during his 14 days in forced isolation.

The policy has been enforced from Sunday and is part of Australia's response to COVID-19 coronavirus.

9News Gold Coast journalist Mackenzie Colahan was talking to travellers at Queensland airport where he approached an Australian man returning to the country who said he plans to smoke weed during his time in isolation.

"Yeah just gonna lock myself in and punch some cones for a couple of days," he said.

A person behind the camera started laughing and told him "you can't say that they'll probably use it".

The traveller's companion didn't seem impressed by the comments saying the footage will probably go viral and he'll have to hide to avoid attention.

But the man just replied, "I'm gonna have to stay inside anyway".

The clip has been widely shared on Twitter with 365,000 views and 11,000 likes.

There are now over 400 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Australia and there have been five deaths. Of these cases, 23 have recovered.
