The family of an Australian man dying of cancer sneaked their pet cat into hospital for a final farewell.

In a video posted to Tik Tok, Paul Lewis' family is shown preparing their ginger feline Coco, for his trip to Muswellbrook hospital, New South Wales.

Lewis, who is filmed lying on a hospital bed, had bowel and kidney cancer.

He was rushed to hospital on Friday, February 28 after his health deteriorated.

He passed away on Monday.

According to his grandaughter Alisha Foti, the family's 19-year-old feline was very close with Lewis.

"Coco was frantically looking for my grandfather on Sunday," Foti told MailOnline.

Although the family were told Lewis would be lethargic from morphine, Foti said they wanted Coco to have closure as well.

She said once, Coco was in front of Lewis, he began to cry (miaow).

"He was calm in the car and once we got him to my grandfather he just sat there and actually started crying which set off all of us crying.

"Pop was in and out of consciousness but you could tell he was happy to see him," she said.

Foti thought Lewis' main nurse had noticed something was going on, but due to the circumstances, she didn’t say anything.

Foti's video has been liked more than 2.6 million times.
