Human-to-human transmission of coronavirus confirmed in Australia

Australia has confirmed two likely cases of human-to-human transmission of coronavirus.

Test results received on Monday afternoon confirmed three new cases in New South Wales - two of which contracted the virus through human-to-human transmission.

One person is a health care worker who had not been out of the country in three months.

He tested positive on the third of three tests, reports 7 News.

The other is the sister of a man who tested positive after returning from Iran. She had not been overseas recently either.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said it is a "high likelihood" the disease spread between people.

He urged Australians to be cautious, but not alarmed. He also said people should be careful of how they greet others on a day-to-day basis.

"It's a very Australian thing to do, put your hand out to shake hands," he said.

"I would be suggesting that it's time Aussies gave each other a pat on the back for the time being."

A total of 32 people are infected with the virus in Australia and one has died.

All previous cases were either people infected overseas or on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
