Pete Buttigieg pulls out of US presidential race

Pete Buttigieg is reportedly pulling out of the race for the Democractic presidential nomination.

The former Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, made his decision following a big loss in the South Carolina primary over the weekend, The New York Times reports.

Buttigieg has yet to officially confirm his withdrawal, but according to The Times he no longer believes he has enough broad support among voters following his poor performance in South Carolina .

His decision to pull out came as a surprise to many after he won the Iowa caucuses in February and came in second in New Hampshire.

The South Carolina primary was won by former Vice President Joe Biden.
Bernie Sanders, Michael Bloomberg, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren also remain in the race.

The presidential election is set for November 3.
