An Australian celebrity chef has criticised her five-star hotel's service while in quarantine from recent overseas travel.

Television host Lyndey Milan has been staying at the Syndey Hilton Hotel with her partner John where she has been sharing "isolation diaries" to her Instagram account.

The couple had returned to the country from London on Sunday and joined nearly 200 other recent travellers in isolation at the hotel during the pandemic.

Milan has hit out at the erratic meal delivery service and "disgusting" meals which have been provided by airline catering company Gate Gourmet.

One morning her breakfast arrived at 12:30pm she said. Another time her dinner meal was left for her at 9:30pm.

"No one is being fed and they don’t answer the phone and it’s 8.30pm," Milan says in an Instagram video.

"Finally it comes and it was disgusting. I got two little boxes of gluggy rice with hard, cold deep-fried tofu on top. That’s it.

"We were feeling pretty down that night."

Milan told her Instagram followers she is feeling "deprived", frustrated and hungry and while she didn't expect to be given fine dining, she is disappointed at what she has been provided.

She says despite letting them know her specific dietary requests for minimal gluten she has been given "carb loading" food which has left her feeling "sluggish and awful".

However, some of her followers have criticised Milan for not appreciating what she does have.

"Please stop with your negativity. People are dying... You are safe, you are healthy. Be grateful and please stop your videos. It's purely whinging," one commenter wrote.

"You have shelter and a bed, and you had lunch today, we are the Lucky Country," another added.

On Tuesday Milan updated her followers that the food had improved.

"Good News! After the lows and inedible food yesterday they have changed the food service provider," she said.

Milan also celebrated that her family was able to get her a hamper full of her favourite food and drinks including gin and tonic, and smoked salmon and avocados.

"I'm a lucky one, my sister was able to drop off a care package.

"What about these people opposite who are from Tasmania? They haven't got anyone to drop them off a care package and now they can't even order in. They just get what they’re given."

The Sydney Hilton and Gate Gourmet have been contacted for comment.
