A Russian man opened fire on his neighbours because they refused to stop talking loudly outside his home over the weekend.

The shooting - which took place in Yelatma, about 200km south-east of capital Moscow - claimed the lives of five people.

Russian authorities claim the incident occurred when the man complained to the group from his balcony at 10pm on Saturday (local time).

They rebuffed his requests to quieten down, and the group and the man entered into a fierce argument.

When they still refused to leave or stop talking loudly, he got his hunting rifle out and opened fire on the group, killing four men and one woman.

The man has now been arrested, and his apartment has been searched.

Yelatma, the village in which the shooting occurred, is currently under strict lockdown due to coronavirus.

Russia currently has 5389 recorded cases of COVID-19 and 45 deaths. However, critics say this figure is much higher, and the Kremlin is covering up the true scale of the outbreak in Russia.
