A woman fell to her death earlier this week while celebrating the end of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in Turkey.

The woman, identified as Kazakh national Olesia Suspitsina, was found in the water of Kaleici Yacht Harbour in Falez Park, Antalya on Monday (local time). It's believed the 31-year-old was having her picture taken on a cliff and fell 35 metres.

Before that, the victim and a friend had been walking around Falez Park - which was still off-limits due to COVID-19 restrictions despite a lockdown being lifted that day, local news site Haberturk reports.

A friend of Suspitsina, Olga Kravchuk, said the pair had known each other since they were 15-years-old.

"I do not know what to say," she told Kazakh news station KTK.

"We talked every day and made video calls. We left like sisters.

"I still do not believe in this situation."

Suspitsina's death is not being treated as suspicious and was deemed an accident.

As part of efforts to tighten COVID-19 measures, Turkey President Tayyip Erdogan imposed a four-day lockdown last weekend which ended on Monday.

The country is seventh globally in confirmed cases of the virus at more than 120,000 and the death toll stands at 3174, according to John Hopkins University.
