Republican supporters turn on Donald Trump in new campaign to vote for Joe Biden

A new advertising campaign has been launched by Republican Party supporters to oust Donald Trump, the Republican President, from the White House.

Republican Voters Against Trump launched the 'End Trump's American Carnage' campaign on Tuesday aiming to persuade US residents to vote for Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 US election.

"Despite the president's claims he has the total support of the party, there are millions of voters who used to be reliable Republicans but are disgusted by the Trump administration," they said in a Facebook post.

"No matter the reason, they are united in wanting the country to move on from this deeply un-American presidency."

The main campaign video focuses on what the US President promised voters he would change if he was elected president in the 2016 election.

It then shows the 'carnage' which occurred during his term including the death of George Floyd, the protests and riots, police brutality, and the COVID-19 outbreak in the US where 1.8 million people have been infected and 106,000 have died.

Campaign spokesperson Sarah Longwell said Trump is "dividing us, rather than uniting us", in a statement obtained by the Huffington Post.

"I was surprised by how many people had just decided [who to vote for] because of the coronavirus response," she said, the New York Times reported.

"They for the first time started watching the press conferences."

She said many Republicans voted for Trump in 2016 because they trusted him more than Hillary Clinton.

"You can't overstate what the Clintons represent for Republicans," Longwell said, the New York Times reported.

"Donald Trump's corruption was offset by what they saw as her corruption."

There are over 100 testimonials for the campaign of people explaining why they will be voting for Biden in the November election, despite disagreeing on policy.

One of the testimonials, Gary from Florida, describes Biden as "not a perfect candidate" but a "decent man".

The videos are set to air on Fox News this week as part of a $10 million promotional campaign.

But Tim Murtaugh, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, dismissed the effort in a one-word email to the New York Times: "irrelevant".

The election is due to take place on November 3, 2020.
