US President Donald Trump thanks himself for 'great job', 'domination' in curbing protests over George Floyd's death

US President Donald Trump has thanked himself for "no problems" in Washington DC and Minneapolis while praising authorities for their "overwhelming force" in "dominating" the thousands of people protesting the racist treatment of black people in America.

His gloating tweet comes just a day after police used tear gas, flash grenades and batons to violently clear peaceful protesters in front of the White House so Trump could pose with a bible in front of a nearby church.

"D.C. had no problems overnight," Trump tweeted on Wednesday.

"Many arrests. Great job done by all. Overwhelming force. Domination. Likewise, Minneapolis was great (thank you President Trump!)."

The boastful post is in reference to the riots which have broken out across the country following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer and generations of inequality and police brutality against black people.

Protests in some cases have escalated to violence from and towards police. Reports of police bursting people's eyes with rubber bullets, caging people in and tear gassing them, and shooting people for being outside their homes have made headlines across the world.

In response to the chaos, Trump declared he would mobilise federal resources to respond to the protests breaking out across the country.

"I am dispatching thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel, and law enforcement officers to stop the rioting, looting, vandalism, assaults, and the wanton destruction of property."

"I am your president of law and order."
