A Spanish councillor has offered to resign after accidentally filming himself naked during a Zoom meeting broadcast on live TV.

Bernardo Bustillo was dialled into the videochat for the Torrelavega community in Cantabria, northern Spain, when he came worried he wouldn't be able to get ready in time to take his daughter to her commitments.

Bustillo decided to multitask and take a shower during the meeting. He believed he had turned his camera off - but unfortunately for him and the viewers, he had only minimised the call screen on his computer.

At first he was filmed showering behind a translucent screen, maintaining his privacy from his colleagues on the call.

But then he came out of the shower with no clothes on - exposing his body to their horrified eyes.

According to Spanish media, the naked event was broadcast live on television, where it was witnessed by several local residents.

"Tell Berni something, please. Can we log him off?" one of his colleagues can be heard pleading in the recording.

The mayor then swiftly ended the call.

Following the incident, Bustillo said he was at "total peace" with what occurred and would allow his party to decide if he can keep his post.

"It is curious that the greatest controversy so far in my political life is motivated by one of the elements that has naturally accompanied me," he said.

"Because of my job [as a swimming teacher] I have spent half of my life half-naked and I have never been embarrassed by nudity, whether it be someone else's and much less mine."
