A bullet hole has pierced the wall of a six-year-old girl's bedroom following a shooting in New York City.

On the Fourth of July, multiple shots were fired outside a Harlem apartment block - one of several violent shootings over the weekend across the United States.

Bullets hitting at least three vehicles and the front doors of two first-floor apartments at 3:20pm, The Post reported.

One of the bullets flew into the girl's room after piercing the front door, police told The Post

In an incredible stroke of luck, the girl was not harmed as she was away for the weekend with her older sister.

In a picture released by the New York Police Department, the bullet hole sits above a row of stuffed animals over the young girl's bed.

"Every time you hear about a shooting, think about this stray bullet that made it into the bedroom of a precious little girl," the NYPD tweeted

"Thankfully no one was hurt. Thank you to our cops and detectives for arresting one of the persons responsible. #disgraceful."

The girl's dad, Rodney Miller, was taking a nap when he was forced awake by a sudden "pop".

The 53-year-old web designer told The Post he walked out of his bedroom to find bullet holes in the bedroom, bathroom, front door and couch.

Miller followed the path of bullet holes into the bedroom, where he saw one in the wall above his daughter's bed.

"She could have been playing in her room, she could have been going to the bathroom, she could have been sitting on the couch," he said.

"My oldest daughter could have been here. My granddaughter could have been here... I was here. It could have hit me."

Miller wants the man responsible to know the real repercussions of his actions.

"What if something had happened to my daughter? They could have destroyed my family."

Dawon Brown, 31, was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, The Post reported.

New York has seen a spike in gun violence, with 64 shot and 10 dead during the July the Fourth holiday weekend, The New York Times reported.

Police blamed gang violence and several other factors for the violent weekend, according to ABC News.
