Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman's final tweet now Twitter's most-liked ever

A tweet posted to Chadwick Boseman's page announcing his death is now the most-liked ever, with almost 6 million.

Twitter company made the announcement in a tweet of its own on Sunday morning (NZ time). 

"Most liked Tweet ever. A tribute fit for a King. #WakandaForever."

The tweet, posted to the Black Panther star's Twitter account on Saturday, confirmed the actor had passed away following a four-year-long battle with colon cancer.

The news came as a shock to fans as Boseman, 43, had kept his illness private.

The tweet received almost 3 million retweets and comments, including tributes from Marvel Studios, former US President Barack Obama and Boseman's Avengers co-stars.

The former most-liked tweet on Twitter was by Obama in August 2017, with 4.3 million likes.

Boseman was best known for his titular role in Marvel's Black Panther film, which grossed more than US$2.8 billion at the global box office and was nominated for seven academy awards.

Boseman also starred in Avengers: Endgame, the highest-grossing film of all time.
