The Australian state of Victoria recorded 372 new cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths on Friday.

Included in the fatalities was a man in his 20s, authorities said.

Twelve out of the 14 deaths were linked to outbreaks in aged care facilities, Premier Daniel Andrews said in a press conference.

The man in his 20s was the youngest person in Australia to die after testing positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Andrews said it was still not known whether the man died "with" or "from COVID-19".

"I can't speak to the circumstances of that individual," he said, "I can't speak any further about that other than to say I think you're correct to say they are the youngest person."

This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria to 289.

Victoria's largest city, Melbourne, entered a state of disaster and strict lockdown earlier this month after the latest flare-up of COVID-19 showed little signs of letting up.
