Donald Trump tells Hurricane Laura emergency officials to sell his autograph, says it's worth $10,000

President Donald Trump handed out his autograph to emergency officials grappling with the disastrous impact of Hurricane Laura, telling them it would sell for US$10,000.

In a video of his visit to Louisiana circulating on social media, Trump was seen handing out autographs after a media briefing at the Lake Charles fire station.

"Here, sell this tonight on eBay, you'll get $10,000," he said to a police officer.

"If I put your name down it loses a lot of value so, sell it tonight on eBay," he told another.

The President was visiting Louisiana and Texas on Saturday, where he was briefed about the effects of Hurricane Laura - which killed 14 people and left thousands without power.

"Eight deaths were due to carbon monoxide poisoning - representing more than half of the total Laura-related deaths to date," said the Louisiana Department of Health.

"This was a tremendously powerful storm," Trump said at the briefing. "We have to take care of Louisiana. We have to take care of Texas."

On Friday, Trump approved a major disaster declaration for Louisiana, enabling the state to access FEMA relief funding.

The Louisiana Department of Health estimated that more than 220,000 people will be without water and power for weeks.
