An Australian man has been sentenced after crashing his van stuffed with methamphetamine into two marked police vehicles, in what police have labelled as "one of the easiest drug busts."

Simon Tu was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison on Friday for the possession and supply of a prohibited drug, reports BBC.

Police discovered Tu's stash after he swerved and hit two parked police cars in Sydney in July 2019. Officers found the two cars severely damaged and used CCTV footage to track down his van.

After pulling Tu over, police noticed he was acting suspiciously and decided to search the car - uncovering the 260kgs of methamphetamine he was hiding.

The drugs, packed into cardboard boxes in the van, reached a street value of over NZ$140 million.

New South Wales police told 7News the bust would have to have been the "easiest" drug bust ever made.

Judge Penny Hock, of the Downing Centre District Court, said the offender's incompetent driving brought him to the attention of police and the arrest was: "most unfortunate for the offender but was of great benefit to the community."
