COVID-19: Pregnant Melbourne woman arrested for creating coronavirus lockdown protest event on Facebook

Footage has emerged of a pregnant Melbourne woman being arrested in her own home after she allegedly created a Facebook event urging people to protest local lockdown restrictions.

A video that's gone viral shows the woman being approached by police officers and being put in handcuffs on Monday while her children are present.

She's seen questioning officers about her arrest, telling them, "I have an ultrasound in an hour".

"I wasn't breaking any laws by doing that," she tells an officer, referring to the Facebook event she created.

In the video, she also tells officers that she's "happy to delete the post". She argues she shouldn't be arrested, but that wasn't good enough for police.

The officers proceed to execute a search warrant and seize items from her home.

A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed to 7 News the woman had been arrested and subsequently charged with incitement.

"Police executed a search warrant at a Miners Rest address this afternoon [Wednesday] and a mobile device was seized.

"As a result, a 28-year old female has been charged with the offence of incitement and has been bailed to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on January 25, 2021," the spokesperson told 7 News.
