Man accused of murdering Sergeant Matt Ratana described as 'good with weapons'

The man accused of murdering London's Kiwi police sergeant Matt Ratana has been given a chilling description.

Louis de Zoysa was described by his peers in his high school yearbook as being "good with weapons".

The 23-year-old has been accused of fatally shooting Sergeant Matt Ratana using a concealed weapon while being held in custody in the early hours of Friday morning (UK time).

The suspect, who is believed to have then shot himself, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Ratana's partner of four years Sue Bushby on Monday paid tribute to the man she calls her soul mate.

"I had the pleasure of sharing five years of my life with this lovely man," she said.

"My gentle giant, with his infectious smile and a big heart. I think of him with tenderness and love.

"I know Matt touched many, many people's lives with his friendliness, patience, kindness, enthusiasm and caring ways."

He cared for his colleagues - and brought them McDonald's for breakfast the day before he was killed.

Those colleagues on Monday paid their respects to him, leaving him breakfast on his chair.

Commissioner Cressida Dick of the Metropolitan Police has expressed her gratitude, releasing a photo of her awarding the officer a medal recognising his outstanding service.
