Watch: Huge iceberg with explorers on top flips into bitterly cold Arctic sea

Two Arctic explorers have survived a near-death experience after an iceberg they were on flipped into the sea.

Video of the incident shows the duo scaling the huge chunk of ice near the North Pole when it flips over, plunging them into the -2C water and nearly crushing them.

The men have admitted it was a dangerous mistake, saying it's a lesson on "what not to do".

"I've been doing my stupid things for 30 years all over the world," says one of the explorers, Mike Horn, in the video posted to YouTube. "I've had quite a few accidents but we always try to make the right decision at the right time to come home alive."

Astonished viewers commented with mixed reactions.

"That was a particularly stupid stunt," one said.

"It is great that nothing happened to you in the end, and you came out of this situation only richer with experience," another wrote.

Horn, who was born in South Africa, is regarded as the globe's "greatest modern-day explorer", according to his website.

Other expeditions he's partaken in include swimming the Amazon River by himself.
