White House advisor claims Donald Trump told her to 'take one for the team' after being 'hit on' by Kim Jong-un

A senior staff member of Donald Trump has revealed she was "hit on" by North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has released excerpts of her new book, Speaking for Myself, about her time working for the US President.

Sanders wrote that she met Kim during the North Korea- United States diplomatic summit in Singapore in 2018, the Guardian and New York Times reported.

She recalled a moment where she and the North Korean leader "made direct eye contact and Kim nodded and appeared to wink at me," which left her stunned.

"I quickly looked down and continued taking notes and for the rest of the meeting only looked up from my notes in the direction of the US delegation," she wrote.

On the way back to the airport, Sanders said she told Trump and former chief of staff, John Kelly.

"Kim winked at you?" Trump asked. "Are you telling me Kim Jong-un hit on you?!"

Sanders made it clear that was not what she meant but Trump continued to joke about the incident, the New York Times reported.

"Well, Sarah, that settles it," Trump said. "You're going to North Korea and taking one for the team! Your husband and kids will miss you, but you'll be a hero to your country!"

Trump and Kelly reportedly "howled with laughter" as the car drove on.

In the book, Sanders also claims Trump unnerved Kim during the summit when he offered a breath mint.

"Kim, confused, and probably concerned it was an attempt to poison him, wasn’t sure how to respond," she wrote.

"The president dramatically blew into the air to reassure Kim it was just a breath mint and took a few from the box and popped them into his mouth. Kim reluctantly accepted the Tic Tac from President Trump and ate it."

The New York Times reported Sanders said Trump was very aware of the news regarding the summit and wanted to boast to friends about it, including professional golf player Jack Nicklaus.

"I suspect the president was looking for someone to talk to about something lighter than North Korea and nuclear armageddon so he asked for the phone and called Jack," Sanders wrote.

"They spoke and laughed for a few minutes like old friends do. We motioned to the president it was time. He told Jack he had to go, and said, 'I'm about to do something big. Turn on your TV. You won't believe it, and you don’t want to miss it.'"

Trump is yet to respond to the book's claims.

Speaking for Myself is expected to go on sale in the US from Tuesday and is said to be a "glowing" review of the US President.
