Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison rushed out of building by police after protester confrontation

Scott Morrison was forced to flee from an appearance at Queensland University after protesters hurled paint at his car and verbally abused him over his refugee response.

The Australian Prime Minister was touring the Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology on Monday when he was swamped by dozens of refugee rights activists.

The protesters hurled red paint at the Prime Minister's car before forcing their way into the building to confront him.

"Lock up ScoMo, throw him in the sea. We won't stop til we free the refugees," they chanted.

Police were forced to usher Morrison out a back door and into a waiting police van to escape the Refugee Solidarity Meanjin protesters.

A video of Morrison being rushed from the building posted to Facebook by Refugee Solidarity Meanjin was captioned "now you know how it feels to flee in fear".

"You're committing crimes against humanity!" a woman can be heard screaming as a man calls Morrison "f***ing scum".

Paint was also splattered across the building, hitting one of the University's security guards.

Refugee Solidarity Meanjin are part of the same group that have been taking action outside the Kangaroo Point Central Hotel and Apartments this year.

They are protesting the indefinite detention of 120 men inside the accommodation facility who were moved there from offshore detention as part of the medevac bill.
