Kellyanne Conway, a high-profile former adviser to US President Donald Trump, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Conway, who announced in August she would step down as a counsellor to Trump, told her Twitter followers that she had mild symptoms, but was feeling fine.

"Tonight I tested positive for COVID-19. My symptoms are mild (light cough) and I’m feeling fine. I have begun a quarantine process in consultation with physicians. As always, my heart is with everyone affected by this global pandemic," she wrote on Twitter on Saturday afternoon.

It comes just a day after Trump tested positive for the virus. He was on Saturday transported to the Walter Reed Medical Centre, which officials said was just a precaution.

CNN reports that Conway attended a Rose Garden event last week when Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett as his nomination for the Supreme Court. It's said she is the sixth person to attend the event to test positive.

Conway was Trump's campaign manager during his successful campaign for the presidency in 2016 and became a key aide to him during his first term. She became well-known at the start of Trump's tenure for the phrase "alternative facts".
