A Kiwi woman murdered by her boyfriend in Melbourne is being remembered as a "kind soul".

Kate Bell, 31, was killed by her partner Rahul Patel, 29, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Shortly after police were informed of the attack, Patel was found dead from self-inflicted injuries, reports the Herald Sun.

Bell moved to Melbourne from New Zealand in 2018 and worked as a personal assistant at Deloitte before starting a new role as an executive assistant at building consultant Rider Levett Bucknall in May.

Director Tony Moleta said Bell was a bright young woman who would be dearly missed.

"Kate will be remembered as someone that had a kind soul and never said a bad word about anything or anyone," Moleta said.

"She was always striving to achieve the best outcome for everyone around her and our lives will be better for having known her."

Patel was also from New Zealand and worked as a Facilities Manager at CBRE Global Investors, according to his LinkedIn.

The pair had only been dating a few months, the Herald Sun understands.

In the days prior to the tragedy, there had been concern over his mental health - but Bell seemed in high spirits, according to a close associate.

"She was in a good place. There was nothing to suggest there was something wrong," the associate told the Herald Sun.
