Melbourne authorities hunt for alleged thieves who broke into COVID-19 positive woman's house

Melbourne authorities are hunting for four alleged thieves after they broke into the home of a COVID-19 positive woman.

Health authorities fear the four women who broke into the female cleaner's home last week could have contracted the virus and are now spreading it through the community, reports 7 News.

Police say they believe the victim of the break-in knows who the culprits are but is declining to cooperate.

Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said contact tracers have their work cut out for them enough as is.

"Almost every single community case has complexities ... that we never faced in the first wave," he said on Monday.

"You can get individuals who are very infectious. And you can be unlucky with that interaction and that's why the callout has been to everyone who was there at that time."

On Monday Victoria reported nine new cases of COVID-19 - the state is waiting with bated breath for the daily case average to drop below five. When it does, lockdown restrictions will ease so that Melbourne residents can enjoy freedom of movement.

Victoria has now recorded thirteen consecutive days with less than 20 new infections.
