Donald Trump Jr tests positive for COVID-19

Donald Trump Jr, son of US President Donald Trump, has contracted the coronavirus.

Sources told Bloomberg he's asymptomatic and isolating after testing positive earlier this week.

A spokesperson for Trump Jr confirmed the report to the New York Times, saying he "tested positive at the start of the week and has been quarantining out at his cabin since the result.

"He's been completely asymptomatic so far and is following all medically recommended COVID-19 guidelines."

Trump himself had the virus in early October, and on Saturday (NZ time) his lawyer Rudy Giuliani's son Andrew also tested positive.

Trump Jr, like his father, has spread false claims and information about the virus. In October he said experts predicting a massive surge in cases acoss the US were "truly morons". Since then, there has been a massive surge in cases across the US.

He also said the number of deaths was "almost nothing". About 2000 people a day are dying from the disease in the US. So far the country has lost 260,000 people to COVID-19 - 87 times more than died in the September 11, 2001 attacks.
