A UK family has been told to change their daughter's gravestone after receiving complaints about a 'rude gesture' in one of her photos.

Kayla Carle, 13, a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer, was buried in Hazlehead Cemetery, Aberdeen, after she died earlier this year.

Her mum Rachael received a phone call this week and was asked to remove a photo on her daughter's gravestone.

"I got a phone call from the council telling me that someone had put in a complaint about the picture on my daughter's headstone saying it was rude and inappropriate," she told Mirror Online.

"They said they needed the picture taken down."

The photo of her daughter posing with the 'up yours' sign - a peace sign facing backwards, apparently offended a member of the public.

But mum Rachael insisted the picture represented the character she was.

"It was who she was. It was one of her favourite pictures.

"She liked her pranks, she liked to mess around and she spoke her mind."

Kayla's aunt has since launched a petition calling for the picture to be saved.

"Those of you who knew Kayla knows she was an outgoing, cheeky sh*t!"

"Her mum has gone through enough losing her daughter at the very young age of 13 so why should one complain against the picture be so important.

"If you are offended by it, don't look. Why should one's complaint take away so many comforts to all who loved and cared for Kayla."

The petition has received 1325 signatures.
