The red-bellied black snake is typically found in north-eastern Queensland around well watered areas such as rivers, creek banks and swamps.

It's considered a dangerous species with strong haemotoxic and cytotoxic venom, according to Queensland Museum's website. Its venom is capable of causing significant illness and anyone who's bitten must seek urgent medical attention.
