International airline crew face fines for breaching COVID-19 restrictions in Australia

More than a dozen international airline crew are facing fines for breaching their COVID-19 isolation.

New South Wales premier Gladys Berejiklian revealed on Friday 13 crew members breached their isolation after they arrived in Sydney from South America.

Police will allege they left their accommodation on December 5 and went to nearby businesses

As a result all 13 will face Penalty Infringement Notices of $1000 for failing to comply with public health authorities.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed the isolation breachers tested negative for coronavirus.

"I want to reassure the community that all those individuals were tested and were negative," she said.

"They were referred to the police."

It's not thought the airline crew are the cause of NSW's recent COVID-19 outbreak which has seen residents of Sydney's Northern Beaches urged to remain home.

The state recorded a further 10 cases of locally acquired coronavirus on Friday, with another case linked to the cluster identified in Queensland.

It brings the Northern Beaches cluster to 28 cases.
