Prince Harry links COVID-19 to how humans treat the planet

Prince Harry says the COVID-19 pandemic is like "Mother Nature has sent us to our rooms for  bad behaviour."

He made the statement during an interview with Waterbear, a streaming service for climate documentaries.

When asked how his year had been Prince Harry responded saying 2020 had been a "universally tough year for everyone" before going on to make a connection between COVID-19 and how humans treat the planet.

"Someone said to me right at the beginning of the pandemic it's almost as though Mother Nature has sent us to our rooms for bad behaviour," he says.

Adding that COVID-19 allowed time "to really take a moment and think about what we've done," and remind him about how "interconnected" the world was "not just as people but through nature."

"We take so much from her [Mother Nature] and we rarely give anything back."

He goes on to urge people to join in tackling climate change, emphasising the importance of every person's actions, likening them to raindrops.

"Every single raindrop that falls from the sky relieves the parched ground. What if every single one of us was a raindrop, and if every single one of us cared."

"Being in nature is the most healing part of life," he adds before explaining the birth of his son Archie in 2019, made him realise just how important it is to fight climate change.

"The moment you become a father everything really does change," he says.

"Because then you start to realise well, what is the point of bringing a new person into this world when they get to your age and it's on fire."

"We can't steal their future, we really can't."

The interview was Prince Harry's first public appearance since Meghan Markle revealed she suffered a miscarriage back in July.
