A tropical cyclone is brewing in the Pacific, with forecasters predicting it could hit Fiji over the next 24 hours.

MetService is tracking the potential for several pressure systems to merge and create a tropical cyclone.

On Monday morning, there's a high chance of two depressions merging together to create a cyclone that would form between Vanuatu and Fiji.

Metservice says it's too early to call exactly where the cyclone will hit.

There's also another possible cyclone forming south of Samoa, with Metservice reporting there is a moderate risk it will develop during Monday and Tuesday.

NIWA and MetService said in a joint release in October that New Zealand faces an "elevated" risk of tropical cyclone activity this season, between November and April, due to higher temperatures. These higher temperatures are expected to sweep the country over the coming week, with temperatures predicted to soar to 32C.

WeatherWatch said on Sunday Alexandra could exceed 30C in the shade and most other regions will hit highs of the mid to late 20s.
