A Kiwi has died in California of head injuries sustained while being kicked out of a New Year's Eve party.

According to Times of San Diego, 34-year-old Hadleigh Keane was taken to hospital after being found by police at Mission Beach, San Diego in medical distress.

Keane underwent emergency surgery for his injuries and homicide detectives were called to investigate.

Homicide investigators discovered Keane was involved in a fight with two men after being thrown out of a New Years Eve party the night before he was found.

Keane was allegedly involved in sexual misconduct at the party.

"He was ejected from a party where he allegedly sexually battered several females," Lieutenant Andra Brown said.

Police have not released the identity of the other men involved in the fatal altercation, though Brown said detectives "Conducted an extensive investigation and will submit the case to the District Attorney’s Office for review."

Keane was visiting San Diego for work, reports Times of San Diego.
