Controversy has ramped up across the ditch again over the appropriateness of celebrating Australia Day on January 26th - the day the first fleet of British ships arrived at Sydney Cove back in 1788.

Scott Morrison came under fire last week for criticising Cricket Australia's stance on promoting inclusivity by omitting all references to Australia Day in their advertising for today's matches.

He upset people further by claiming that the experience "wasn't a particularly flash day" for those on the first fleet of boats in 1788.

The Aboriginal community has criticised the Aussie PM and say Australia needs to face up to its pat before they can start to move forward.

University of New South Wales Scientia Indigenous Research Fellow Kevin Lowe spoke to The AM Show.
