A teenager with no known underlying health conditions has died from COVID-19 in England as the United Kingdom's devastating death toll tops 120,000.

The 16-year-old's death was recorded in Saturday's daily figures from the National Health Service (NHS).

It comes just a day after the death of a 13-year-old was recorded in the official statistics. The young teen also had no known underlying conditions.

An additional 307 people who tested positive for COVID-19 were recorded by hospitals in England on Saturday (local time), occurring between January 12 and February 19.

Patients were between the ages of 16 and 100 and all except four - aged between 16 and 68 - had known underlying health conditions.

On Monday, February 22, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will outline the country's steps out of its stringent lockdown.

Last week he expressed optimism that restrictions could be eased as the government nears its target of offering vaccinations to 15 million people in priority groups, including those aged 70 and over, the clinically vulnerable, rest-home residents and frontline health workers.
