Accused child trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has reportedly stunk out her prison cell, frequently refusing to flush the toilet.

Maxwell, a close associate of deceased billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, is currently in a cell at New York's Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). She's awaiting trial on numerous charges relating to her activities with Epstein, who died by apparent suicide before his own trial could be held in 2019.

In February Maxwell's lawyers claimed she was being forced to clean her cell herself, as punishment for reporting alleged abuse at the hands of a guard during a patdown search.

But now prosecutors have hit back, saying she was actually made to clean up because it had become "very dirty" the New York Post reported, citing a letter filed in court.

"Among other things, MDC staff noted that the defendant frequently did not flush her toilet after using it, which caused the cell to smell," the letter reads.

Footage also apparently contradicts Maxwell's claim she was abused, the letter said.

Maxwell's legal team has also complained their client is losing weight and her hair due to shoddy conditions. Prosecutors rejected those claims too, adding that she's also now been vaccinated against COVID-19 - while most Americans haven't had that opportunity yet.

In addition to Maxwell's alleged rejection of hygiene, prosecutors also said they had 2.7 million pages of evidence proving her guilt.i

Newsweek reports the revelation came after Maxwell's legal team requested alleged victims' personal information from the prosecution, including their diaries, as part of their defence. The prosecution has objected to the request.

Maxwell's trial has been set down for July.
