Prince Philip was born Prince Philip of Greece on June 10, 1921 and entered the British Royal Family when he married then Princess Elizabeth in 1947. 

The Duke of Edinburgh was a lieutenant in the British Royal Navy and importantly a devoted husband to the Queen for more than 70 years. 

During his life he launched the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme to encourage young people to get outdoors, became a father to four children, a grandfather to eight, became the longest-living male descendant of Queen Victoria and fought in the Second World War. 

On Friday he died at Windsor Castle aged 99.
