Prince Philip - who died overnight - will perhaps be remembered most as a joker, appropriate or otherwise.
It was Queen Victoria who once famously responded "we are not amused" after someone shared a tale of "impropriety" with her.
It wasn't Prince Phillip of course - but it could so easily have been, for he was certainly known for his at times controversial sense of humour.
