Couple who left dogs in hot car have also been caught stealing money from tip jar

A man and woman are being dubbed 'Britain's meanest couple' after they left two dogs in an enclosed car while dining at a café have been caught on video also stealing money from the tip jar.

Staff at Carats Café in Southwick, Brighton, shared CCTV footage of the couple in hope the public could identify them.

The woman can be seen reaching into the tip jar while the man looks around.

Staff also claimed the couple took drinks from the fridge they did not pay for.

Café manager Zoe Kibble told MailOnline: "They came to the till and ordered two breakfasts and while the member of staff was distracted, they just opened the fridge next to the counter and helped themselves."

The video shows the couple moments before they heard their car alarm go off, rushing outside to see police desperately breaking into their vehicle to rescue two dogs.

The dogs were left sweltering in the hot, enclosed car in the 25 degree heat.

According to The Sun, police told the couple "It's a hot day. You shouldn't be leaving the dog in the car in this weather."

A passer-by took a video of the incident and the woman can be heard yelling furiously "you broke my window."

A police spokesperson later told The Sun: "Sussex Police were called about two dogs left locked inside a car in the heat of the day on Sunday on Madeira Drive, Brighton. Officers had no choice but to smash the side window to gain access and a kind member of the public donated a bottle of water."
