Coronavirus: New South Wales records more than 1000 new COVID-19 cases

 

New South Wales has recorded more than 1000 new cases of COVID-19 in just 24 hours, and three more people have died.

Of the 1029 new cases recorded up to 8pm Wednesday, 185 are linked to a known cluster and 844 are under investigation.

Ninety-one were in isolation during their infectious period, 33 were in isolation and 61 are confirmed to have been infectious in the community - the movements of 844 others is under investigation.

Three men who were being cared for in western Sydney died at their homes - a man in his 30s, a man in his 60s, and a man in his 80s.

The record amount of new cases come as Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced a relaxation of some COVID-19 restrcitons from September 13.

Fully vaccinated adults will be allowed to gather outside in groups of up to five people - if they are outside areas of concern. 

The younger of the two men died at home after rapidly deteriorating, Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said.

There are 698 COVID cases being treated in hospital, including 116 in intensive care and 43 requiring ventilators.
