A young boy shot his mother dead while she was on a work-related Zoom call after finding his father's unsecured loaded handgun in their home, according to reports

Florida woman Shamaya Lynn, 21, was on a video call when one of Lynn's co-workers noticed it looked like she needed help.

"The person stated that during the work-related call they saw a toddler in the background and heard a noise," local police said in a statement on their Facebook page

Lynn then fell backward and never returned to the call.

A member of the conference call immediately called emergency services, and on arrival at Lynn's property, found she had a fatal gunshot to the head.

"Officers and paramedics did their best in rendering aid", but Lynn had already succumbed to her injuries.

"Investigators determined that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded handgun, which was left unsecured by an adult in the apartment," police said.

Police confirmed the woman was the toddler's mother, and that there was another toddler home during the fatal incident.

"You've got to think about what the family will be going through, not only today, but tomorrow and in the years to come," a member of Altamonte Springs Police Department told local media.

According to local media outlets, the unsecured gun is owned by the toddler's father.

The investigation is still ongoing, and officials are determining whether any charges will be laid on the owner of the firearm.
