Two teenage boys in the UK have been arrested after a father-of-three was stabbed to death on his doorstep while reportedly trying to defend his daughter.

Jamie Markham was killed on Monday night (local time) after confronting the young teens, who were allegedly swinging metal poles and shouting abuse at his 17-year-old daughter.

On Wednesday, a 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder and a second 14-year-old was arrested on suspcion of conspiracy to murder, Metro reports.

His widow Candice told The Mirror that Markham had run out of their London flat to protect his daughter when the group of youths set upon him.

Despite desperate attempts by paramedics to save him, Markham was pronounced dead at the scene.

The father-of-three has been described as a "kind family man" by neighbours, who said they heard the gut-wrenching screaming as Candice discovered her husband fatally wounded on their doorstep.

Detective Inspector John Marriot told reporters the brutality of the teens' response has shocked officers.

"The brutality of this response is beyond shocking and our thoughts are with James’ family who have been left devastated by their loss."

He says police believe there are more witnesses to the murder and anyone who was there is urged to come forward.
