COVID-19: New South Wales records 1220 new cases of COVID-19, eight deaths

New South Wales has recorded another 1220 community COVID-19 cases and eight deaths amid the Delta outbreak.

At a press conference on Tuesday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian revealed the cases and congratulated residents for the state's high vaccination rates.

In the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday, NSW Health administered 28,812 COVID-19 vaccines. The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 7,587,842, with 2,858,114 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm.

The deaths included a woman in her 70s who died at Dubbo Hospital, a man in his 90s who died at St George Hospital, a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s who died at Nepean Hospital, a man in his 90s who died at Campbelltown Hospital, a man in his 70s who died at Liverpool Hospital, a man in his 80s who at Westmead Hospital and a man in his 60s who died at home. 

NSW Health extended its deepest sympathies to the victims' loved ones. 

There have been 139 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since  June 16 2021 and 195 in total since the start of the pandemic.

There are 1151 COVID patients in hospital currently and 192 people in intensive care. Seventy-five patients require ventilation. 

There were 100,745 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 136,455.

Victoria is also struggling with a COVID outbreak recording 246 new cases on Tuesday, the same as the previous day.
