Gabby Petito: FBI finds Brian Laundrie's belongings near unidentified human remains

The FBI has found items belonging to Brian Laundrie, the missing fiancé of dead American woman Gabby Petito, next to some unidentified human remains.

Petito, a 22-year-old travel blogger, was reported missing in September after embarking on an extensive trip around America in early July with Laundrie.

Her disappearance gripped the world, and in late September, her body was found in a remote area of Bridger-Teton National Forest, in western Wyoming.

Police and FBI agents have since been searching for Laundrie, a person of interest, who has not been seen since September 14 after he returned to his family home in Florida alone.

On Thursday (NZ time), items belonging to Brian Laundrie were found in Florida wilderness park Carlton Reserve, the FBI confirmed.

During a press conference the FBI said the belongings were also found near some human remains, which have not yet been identified.

There is no confirmation if the remains belong to Laundrie.

The local medical examiner and a K9 unit have been called to the scene, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said, NBC reported.
