Cleo Smith: Terence Kelly appears in court facing child abduction charges

A 36-year-old man has appeared in court in Western Australia charged with the alleged abduction of Cleo Smith.

Terence Darrell Kelly appeared before a magistrate on Thursday charged with various offences including forcibly taking a child under 16.

Kelly expressed anger at the media, and at one point looked at them before swearing and saying, "I'm coming for you" and "Why are they here?".

He was remanded in custody until December 6.

Social media posts show Kelly holding two Bratz dolls with another photo revealing a room full of dolls.

Kelly has been in custody for the past two days after police broke into a house in Carnarvon on Wednesday and found Cleo in a bedroom.

The four-year-old vanished while on a family camping trip in the outback more than two weeks ago. She had been missing for 18 days when police received a tip that led them to the house.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said officers had no idea what to expect when they broke in.

"They really did not know what they were going to encounter," Dawson told News.com.au.

"It was the hard work of the team that did it. Analysing all that information, gathering it and finding the needle in the haystack."

He told News.com.au officers broke into the house in a "matter of hours" after they received the tip-off.

Cleo was found alive and well, deputy Western Australia Police Commissioner Col Blanch said.

"Cleo is alive and well. A police team broke their way into a locked house in Carnarvon about 1am," he said at the time.

"They found little Cleo in one of the rooms."
