COP26: United States President Joe Biden reportedly breaks wind while meeting Duchess of Cornwall in Glasgow

United States President Joe Biden has had a moment he'd like to forget in front of the Duchess of Cornwall during meetings at COP26 in Glasgow.

Biden met with Camilla Parker Bowles - the Duchess of Cornwall - and various other members of the Royal Family during a reception at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow to mark the summit’s opening night, attended by world leaders.

During the meeting with Camilla, the US President reportedly audibly broke wind.

A source told the Daily Mail in the UK that Camilla has not been able to stop talking about the President's "long fart".

“It was long and loud and impossible to ignore,” the Mail on Sunday quoted a source as saying. “Camilla hasn't stopped talking about it.”

The incident quickly began to trend on the social media platform Twitter where it was given the name "fartgate".

This isn't the only moment Biden would like to forget or wish wasn't reported during his time in Scotland.

He appeared to nod off during the COP26 climate summit on Monday (local time), before being woken up by an aide.

The 78-year-old was caught getting some shut-eye as the UN conference, dubbed critical to averting the most impacts of climate change, got underway in Scotland.

The gaffe came before Italy Prime Minister Mario Draghi entered the stage to make his opening remarks.

Biden has had a busy past few days, leaving the US for Rome in late October for the G20 summit ahead of COP26. He also met with Pope Francis while there.

"An unfortunate metaphor for the Biden presidency," said Kayleigh McEnany, the former press secretary of ex-US President Donald Trump - who regularly called Biden "sleepy Joe".

After reawakening at COP26, Biden was centre stage for his own speech - assuring world leaders the US would keep its promise to slash greenhouse gas emissions by more than half by the end of the decade.

He admitted the US hadn't always led by example on climate change.
