A UK drug dealer who decorated his Christmas tree in £20 notes and balls of drugs has been jailed for seven years and six months.

The photo of the tree was used in the trial of Marvin Porcelli, 47, to show his key role in a Liverpool-based drug gang.

Liverpool Crown Court Judge Anil Murray said Porcelli had an "operational function" in a network which ran "a large, professional, sophisticated, well-planned, well-organised and successful" operation.

The court heard Porcelli was involved in storing, couriering, cutting and supply of drugs on behalf of gang members higher up the chain, the Liverpool Echo reports.

"The conspiracy could not have operated without the actions you took," Judge Murray said.

Police found 1kg of cocaine when they raided Porcelli's partner's home in March.

Other searches that followed uncovered containers holding about half a kilo of cocaine under pillows on a bed as well as 'tick lists' and wraps of white powder.

When officers asked Porcelli if there were any drugs in his home, he replied: "Class A drugs."

Porcelli admitted conspiracies to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis in court.
