Police in Italy have arrested a nurse for pretending to give the COVID vaccine to at least 45 anti-vaxxers.

The nurse was secretly filmed by police loading the doses of the vaccine then emptying it before injecting it into the patient's arm, Euronews reported.

The 58-year-old nurse from Palermo in Sicily, was arrested on charges of forgery and embezzlement, The Guardian reported.

The anti-vaxxers wanted the vaccine certificate that is mandatory to access travel and enter many public places in Italy but didn't want the vaccine.

According to The Guardian, anti-vaxx protesters were willing to pay up to €300 ($503 NZD) for the service to receive the so-called "super green pass".

This isn't the first time fake vaccine passes have been given.

A Newshub undercover operation recorded a Canterbury doctor giving fake medical exemptions for the vaccine in December.
