New South Wales Police are searching for two men who allegedly decapitated a wild duck in Sydney.

Police claim witnesses saw two men chase a flock of wild ducks in a car park on Saturday.

One of the men then allegedly captured one of the birds and beheaded it.

The two men left the scene before officers arrived and began their investigations.

Police said they were called to a club car park in Mittagong on the Old Hume Highway in Sydney's west after reports of animal cruelty.

The incident comes just two days after the SPCA in New Zealand released social media footage of a man trapping a wild pig under a four-wheel-drive vehicle before stabbing it multiple times while it was stuck under the vehicle.

The man was convicted and ordered to pay legal costs of $500, court costs of $130 and give a $2500 donation to the SPCA.

The SPCA said it has noticed an increasing trend of animal abuse being filmed and posted on social media.

It said such behaviour is unacceptable and where SPCA has evidence of a crime, prosecution will always be a consideration.
