A weather warning has been issued for people in Florida - iguanas are falling from the sky.

Meteorologist and hurricane specialist Zach Covey posted an "iguana warning" on Twitter for the Indian River and Okeechobee counties on January 24.

As temperatures fall in the state, the cold-blooded reptiles enter a 'cold stunned' state causing them to no longer be able to hold onto branches and drop from great heights.

One Twitter user caught a falling iguana on tape.

"As they are cold-blooded iguanas shut down and they stiffen up and then fall from trees!" they wrote.

However, not to worry - the iguanas do not die from the fall and recover and move as soon as their bodies warm up.

This is not the first time iguanas have dropped from the sky, as "dropping iguana season" has become a phenomenon among locals.
