A memorial plaque honouring a man who apparently liked to shout "f**k off" at seagulls while taking in a sea view has been removed.

Ceredigion Council in Wales removed the sweary sign, which said: "In loving memory of Huw Davies. Used to sit here and shout 'F**k off' at the seagulls."

The memorial plaque was secured to a park bench in the grounds of Aberystwyth Castle that looked out to sea, but after a photo of it went viral on Twitter, it was quickly removed.

"An unauthorised plaque had been placed, by an unknown person, on an existing bench within Aberystwyth Castle grounds. The plaque has been removed," Ceredigion Council said.

The man who posted the viral photo to Twitter said the plaque was "by some distance" the best park bench memorial he'd seen.

Others agreed with him.

"I bet every day someone looks at it and smiles, if not laughs. May we all achieve that level of legendary," one person said.

"This is the kind of legacy I hope to leave behind too," another added.

Others added their own examples of humorous park bench plaques. One said: "Forever missed by his friends and family. He's not dead yet. He's just become increasingly anti-social."

Metro UK reported that locals don't seem to know who Huw Davies was, but they nonetheless found it funny.
