Australian man takes citizens arrest to new heights, hoisting his car in the air with forklift while thief inside

An Australian man with a forklift stopped his car from being stolen by using the piece of machinery to hoist the vehicle into the air while the thief was still inside.

Queensland resident Brendan Mills returned home on June 5 to find a woman in his car who had spent two hours showering inside his home and changing into his daughter's clothes and stealing from his bedroom.

The 24-year-old woman had locked herself inside the car attempting to hot wire it, Mills gave the woman two chances to get out of his Volkswagen Polo before he drove his forklift to the side of the car lifting it off the ground, and bringing her attempts to a screeching halt.

The forklift owner told 7News he never imagined the forklift to be used in that way.

"I didn't think it was some sort of crime-fighting tool."

When police arrived the arrest was swift and simple.

"Police came in and were like 'whats going on' and I was like well here they are, the persons in the car."

Police told 7News Mills made their job easy and it is one of the most bizarre arrests they've ever seen.

"They were definitely blown away by it, not something they've heard of," Mills said.
