A content creator was shot in the abdomen while trying to film a prank video for his YouTube channel.
Tanner Cook, 21, was filming with a friend on Sunday at the Dulles Town Center Mall in Sterling, Virginia, US, before things turned sour.
The content creators were making a prank video for their YouTube channel, Classified Goons, when 31-year-old Alan Colie shot Cook in the stomach.
Local Sheriff Mike Champton told Washington-based news station WUSA9 the incident happened during a fight between the two men in the mall's food court.
Cook apparently approached Colie while his friend was recording, intending to just film a harmless prank.
But Colie "didn't take it very well," Cook said from the hospital, as Colie then shot him.
A bullet pierced his stomach and liver, according to WUSA9.
Police arrested Colie immediately and he faces several charges including aggravated malicious wounding.
"I was playing a prank and a simple practical joke," Cook said.
His father, Jeramy Cook, told WUSA9 they were "trying to have fun with people and this guy wasn’t having fun."
Colie apparently didn't like the fact he was being filmed while being the victim of a prank, and "he didn't like it and he pulled out his gun and shot my son," said Cook's father.
The mall was closed for the rest of the weekend but reopened on Monday.
Classified Goons has more than 40,000 subscribers, with their most popular video garnering over 430,000 views.
Videos on the channel feature pranks such as barking in people's ears, impersonating Target store employees, and fake vomiting in rideshare cars like Uber, all the while recording people's reactions.
People often look upset in the videos by the fact they're being filmed.
After recovering, the content creator said he intends to keep making videos.
